Custom MSE Therapy
What is it and who is it for?
It is a highly specialized technique for the skeletal expansion of the palate in patients diagnosed with a narrow palate. In adolescents and adults, the palate bone becomes much more compact, and a simple palate expander is not sufficient to expand it.
The use of the MSE technique allows for the treatment of a narrow palate even in these patients.

How it works
Planning
Following a detailed case study confirming the need for MSE treatment, a CBCT scan and three-dimensional planning are performed using dedicated software to determine the position of the MSE in the palate and the necessary number of mini-screws.
Installation
The expander is cemented and the mini-screws are inserted in the same session, lasting approximately 30 minutes.
Activation
The MSE is activated according to a specific procedure and protocol until the desired expansion is achieved.
Stabilization and start of orthodontic therapy
The MSE is kept in place for about 6 months to allow the bone to consolidate in its new position. Simultaneously, orthodontic therapy begins with fixed appliances or clear aligners.

Our orthodontist, Dr. Lorena Karanxha, is part of the international research group created by Prof. Won Moon, the founder of the MSE technique, and Dr. Daniele Cantarella, who brought the MSE technique to Italy.
